Not all 15-passenger vans are the same. At Chicago Van Rentals we rent three distinct classes of 15-seaters — and knowing the difference can save you money, or make a long trip a whole lot more comfortable. On the outside most of them look nearly identical because they share the same chassis; the real difference is inside: cargo space, headroom, seating, and comfort. Here's a straight-talk guide to every 15-passenger van we offer and how to pick the right one for your group.
The quick version: The Ford Transit is the budget-friendly workhorse. The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is the comfortable, cargo-friendly upgrade — and it comes in three trims, from the regular Sprinter to the fully custom Golden Chariot conversion.

This is our most economical 15-seat van, and the smartest choice if your priority is simply seating 15 people affordably. It's comfortable, reliable, and one of the cheapest ways to keep a big group together on the road. At about 7.2 feet tall, it's also the lowest-profile of our 15-passenger vans.
There's one honest trade-off: with all 15 seats full you have almost no cargo space — realistically just a backpack under each seat. Traveling with luggage? If your group is 13 people instead of 15, we can remove the two rear seats and open up about 2 feet of cargo space behind the last row.

Space-wise this van is identical to the low-roof Transit — same seating, same cargo, same great price. The only difference is height. The low-roof Transit stands about 7.2 feet tall; the medium/high-roof version rises to about 9.6 feet, giving you room to stand up and walk down the aisle inside. In the low-roof model you have to duck to climb in and out, so if you've got taller passengers or kids climbing in and out a lot, the raised roof is worth it.

This is the comfort upgrade — and where 15-passenger travel starts to feel genuinely nice. Every Sprinter in our fleet shares the same premium foundation:
Good to know: Our Sprinters stand about 10.5 feet tall. Skip the drive-thrus and watch for low-clearance parking garages — plan for surface lots and open parking.
Within the Sprinter class you choose one of three interiors. They look the same outside; the seating and finish are what change.
A comfortable, well-appointed 15-seater with the full 3.8 feet of cargo space and all the standard Sprinter features (TV, Xbox One, DVD player, power, navigation). If you want the Mercedes ride and cargo room without the premium recline, this is your value pick in the Sprinter line.
Everything the regular Sprinter offers, plus one upgrade that matters on long drives: the seats recline up to 60 degrees, comfortably. Same cargo, same features — just a more relaxing ride, ideal when you'll be in the van for hours at a time.
The Golden Chariot is a fully custom conversion — one of the finest 15-seat conversion vans available for rental anywhere in the country. Custom seats that recline up to 70 degrees, hardwood flooring, about 3.8 feet of rear cargo space with a separate partition, and all the standard Sprinter tech (TV, Xbox One, smart DVD/Blu-ray, power outlets). It's built for the big trips — three to five families traveling together for a week or ten days, destination weddings, or a comfortable long-haul road trip.
When people ask us "Transit or Sprinter?", it really comes down to two things — cargo space and comfort versus price.
| Ford Transit (15-pax) | Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (15-pax) | |

No — a standard driver's license is all you need for any of our 15-passenger vans; no CDL is required. Drivers must be 25 or older (exceptions for government, military, organization, or CDL drivers, subject to review).
The Sprinter. With all 15 seats in use the Ford Transit has almost no cargo room, while every Mercedes-Benz Sprinter keeps about 3.8 feet of dedicated luggage space behind the last row. For sports teams or trips with bulky gear, the Sprinter is the only 15-passenger van that truly works.
If comfort, cargo space, and long-distance travel matter, yes. The Sprinter adds wider seats, 3.8 ft of cargo, and premium features like a TV, Xbox One, and power outlets. If you simply need 15 seats at the lowest price, the Ford Transit is the smarter pick.
The Ford Transit starts at $140/day. The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter starts at $180/day (Regular), $210/day (Grand Recliner with 60° reclining seats), and $260/day (Golden Chariot luxury conversion). Every rental includes 250 free miles per day.
